Movie Review: Aloha (2015)

Okay guys, I’m disappointed that y’all didn’t make this movie a success. I assume it wasn’t since I looked at times in my theater for the second weekend and it was gone. I had to travel across town to see it. And I am glad I did.

This movie worked for me. Sure, there were some strange parts but they were strange in a human way not strange in an obvious plot device or stupid thing a director got hung up on way.

The acting was nice. This movie took a group of actors not know for their tight, quality performances and gave us a solid cast.

Bradley Cooper was enjoyable in a way he rarely is. Continue reading

Movie Review: Pitch Perfect 2 (2015)

Who comes to a review and doesn’t expect spoilers…

I found the last movie above average. I was pleased with the music, happy with the acting, and content with the plot. My reaction to the sequel was a more watery version of this.

The music was..okay. It was almost…too pretty. For example, there is a grit to My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark that is missing in this (and every) a cappella version. I guess I shouldn’t have expected music with magic from a movie about a vocal group losing their sound and compensating for boring music with flash. I won’t be buying the soundtrack though. Not even a Disney Channel original star level original song can tempt me to pay real money for heartless, formulaic, flat, pandering music. The movie could have had some good secondary vocal groups, they had at least two Sing-Off darlings guesting, but instead Continue reading

Movie Review: Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)

Spoilers

My, my ladies and gentlemen, this movie was something. Not something awesome but something, in that it was a thing, that happened, and existed. I gotta say, I was underwhelmed. This movie was built up. It was supposed to be a darker, closer look at the cast but with the same big bang and pow and zap that we have come to expect from the series. But it fell flat in most ways.

The acting was what it normally is. The actors aren’t at fault. Continue reading

Movie Review: The Age of Adaline (2015)

SPOILERS…duh

Okay folks. It’s been awhile. I’m sorry. Work and life and school and people and my brain and let’s just get to the review. (Nobody actually complained that I was gone…I just wanted to pretend to be needed by y’all.)

So, The Age of Adaline could have been a flat movie. Amazingly, it had a little sparkle. I had hopes for it but was trying to keep them low because we all know how this movie could have played. But I liked it and would see it again, maybe not for money but if it came on one night as I was switching through the channels I would definitely consider making it my entertainment.

The acting was better than I expected. Continue reading

Episode Review: Bachelorette, Season Kaitlyn, Week 2

I didn’t do much last week but if you would like first impressions and a list of names just check here. Spoilers darlings.

Let’s get back to a below average looking group of guys (compared to other seasons) who could all, for the most part, do themselves a favor and go back to hair basics. We all know the producers like Chris the charming dentist since they gave him the nickname Chris “Cupcake” which bodes well for a lovely season brought to you by dramatic editing.

We get to see Britt break down in tears on the phone with her mom only to open the door to find Brady waiting to chill with her. Now we all are probably groaning a little and wondering if he looked at his odds and went with the one that made him look best. But let’s pretend not to be so jaded and that maybe they will be annoyingly happy together. They are still dating after a week which is longer than half of the Bachelor couples so good for them.

-First Group Date: Daniel, Justin, Jared, Corey, Tanner, Kupah, Ben H, and Ben Z (I see this ending with a ring)

The guys have to box or something. Continue reading
