The Fault In Our Stars

Just in case you a waiting for me to see and review this move I want to let you know:

I will not be seeing this movie. It looks terrible. If movies were people this would be the try-hard who keeps the class until the bell because they actually have questions when the teacher says, “Unless there are any questions you are free to go.”

They have the same hair color and almost the same haircut and that weirds me out.

I have a feeling about this movie that I have had before about:

  • Precious
  • Slumdog Millionaire
  • Little Miss Sunshine

I watched those and many others despite my gut feelings and I hated every minute of them (except the Bollywood dance scene at the end). When all I want is an hour or two to escape from the real world these movies suffocate me with heavy, self-satisfied plots. I can see the writers looking at the finished scripts smugly thinking to themselves, “This is amazing. I am so brilliant and deep.”

If you like movies that try their hardest to make you feel bad about humanity, make you regret your life, and make you think that you will become a better person just from understanding the messages in the movie…please feel free to go see it. I won’t judge you for it as long as you don’t consider me an uncultured, mainstream, waste of humanity for staying away from this movie and you until you get over it.

Episode Review: I Wanna Marry “Harry”, Episode 3

See my reviews for episode 1 and episode 2.

“Spotted by the ‘Paparazzi'”

The episode starts in the suite but at least “Harry” doesn’t walk in on an undressed girl this time.

I was right about my hate for Jacqueline. She thinks that judging people constantly makes a girl a mean girl. Girl, hold the phone, because your constant judgement of Meghan makes you a mean girl by your own definition. Thumbs down.

Meghan keeps her thumbs up because she owns her judging. And I love the term “Tacky Jackie”.

Kimberly seems nice. Her date is cute. She might actually have gone for him if he hadn’t lied to her. But she seems like she might have trust issues and he isn’t giving her any reason to trust him. The “pap” guy is a nice touch for the ruse though.

Poor Kelley has to spend the day with Jackie and Maggie. But I am once again impressed with Matt for choosing to spend time with them. He says he knows they haven’t really made on impression on him yet and he didn’t think it was fair to send one of them home just because he didn’t give them a chance. But he does take the chance to throw out a few choice lies. He takes his shirt off. Cue the 2nd time we hear that he is pasty. What did they expect from a British ginger? Continue reading

Normal People in Commercials

Does anybody know how someone becomes a normal person in a TV ad? I am not talking about TV ugly people, or plus sized models, or hot guys who pretend to be nerdy, or the minority used to make the thing being advertised seem different, or the pretty people who get interviewed but are not technically actors. I am talking about the people who are actually normal looking humans.

Sometimes commercials are filled with people we are supposed to want to be. Obviously, those people make sense casting wise. Other times there are people we are not supposed to want to be. They are frumpy, ugly, pockmarked, stupid, fat, bad dressers, pear-shaped, etc. Where do they find these people? How do they handle it when someone says, hey, we need one convincing guy to be the before in this deodorant ad. He needs to be balding, pudgy, and moist looking. Continue reading
